Previously Funded Basin Studies

Reclamation has funded 25 studies since Fiscal Year 2009.

American River Basin - Reclamation partnered with Placer County Water Agency City of Roseville, City of Sacramento, El Dorado County Water Agency, City of Folsom, and the Regional Water Authority. The study area encompasses 2,140 square miles from the Sacramento River to the northern Sierra Nevada mountains. (Completed Study Report)

Upper Red River Basin - Oklahoma
Upper Deschutes Basin - Oregon
Missouri River Headwaters Basin - Reclamation partnered with the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation. The study area encompasses the 49,000 square miles of the Upper Missouri Basin. (Completed Study Report)

San Diego Watershed Basin Study - California
West Salt River Valley Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the West Valley Water Association. The study area encompasses the entirety of the West Salt River Valley. (Completed Study Report)

Plan of Study

Los Angeles Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the Los Angeles County Flood Control District and the Southern California Area Office to fund this study. The study area encompasses 1,900 square miles including the Los Angeles River, San Gabriel River, North Santa Monica Bay, South Santa Monica Bay, Dominguez Channel/Los Angeles Harbor, and Ballona Creek watersheds. Pecos River Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission to fund this study. The study area focuses on the Fort Sumner Underground Water Basin (Fort Sumner Basin), within the Pecos River Basin, New Mexico. (Completed Study Report)
Republican River Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the States of Colorado, Nebraska, and Kansas. The study area covers the Republican River Basin in eastern Colorado, southern Nebraska, and northern Kansas down to the Clay Center gauging station in Kansas. (Completed Study Report)
Sacramento-San Joaquin Rivers Basin Study - Reclmation partnered with the California Department of Water Resources, California Partnership for the San Joaquin Valley, Stockton East Water District, El Dorado County Water Agency, and the Madera County Resources Management Agency. The study area encompasses the entire Central Valley of California. (Completed Study Report)
Upper Washita River Basin Study - Oklahoma

Hood River Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the Hood River County Water Planning Group to fund the study. The study area encompasses a 339 square-mile region in Hood River County in north-central Oregon. (Completed Study Report)
Klamath River Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the State of California Department of Water Resources and State of Oregon Water Resources Department to fund the study. The study area encompasses 12,100 square miles along the boundary of California and Oregon. (Completed Study)
Lower Rio Grande Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the Rio Grande Regional Water Authority to fund the study. The study area encompasses 122,400 square miles along the United States/Mexico border from Fort Quitman, Texas to the Gulf of Mexico. (Completed Study Report)
Santa Fe Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the City of Santa Fe and County of Santa Fe to fund the study. The study area is in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. (Completed Study Report)

Niobrara River Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources and Upper Niobrara-White Natural Resources District to fund the study. The study area is located along the Niobrara River in northern Nebraska.
Santa Ana River Watershed Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority to fund the study. The study area encompasses 2,650 square miles that comprise the Santa Ana Watershed in southern California. (Completed Study Report)
Southeast California Regional Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the Borrego Water District to fund the study. The study area is located in the desert agricultural areas and communities within the lower Colorado River Hydrologic Region. (Completed Study Report)
Truckee River Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the Truckee River Flood Management Project, Placer County Water Agency, Truckee Meadows Water Authority and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.

Colorado River Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the Colorado River Basin States to fund the study. The study area encompasses the Colorado River Basin States including portions of Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. St. Mary and Milk Rivers Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation to fund the study. The study area encompasses north-central Montana, southern Alberta and Saskatchewan in Canada and includes the Blackfeet and Ft. Belknap Indian Reservations. They have also developed a Plan of Study. Yakima River Basin Study - Reclamation partnered with the Washington Department of Ecology - Office of Columbia River to fund the study. The study area is located in south-central Washington. Completed Study Report
