RARE PLANTS
In the Tucson area, the CAP canal crosses populations of several plant species that are very limited in distribution. During the construction of the Tucson Aqueduct, the Tumamoc globe-berry was protected as an endangered species. To compensate for impacts, Reclamation funded additional surveys, funded experimental propagation of the plant at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, and purchased about 220 acres of existing habitat. These additional surveys were in large part responsible for the de-listing of this formerly endangered plant on June 18, 1993.Pima Pineapple Cactus
