Phoenix Area Office - Programs & Activities
Water and Lands
The Water and Lands Division of the Phoenix Area Office is composed of 4 section and works in partnership with CAWCD and SRP to keep the Central Arizona Project and Salt River Project in good working order.
1. Dam Safety: Provides annual inspection and reviews of the 8 high hazard dams and dike in the PXAO inventory, as well as the inspection of SRP, CAP, multiple Irrigation Districts canal inventory.
2. Lands Management: In the construction of the SRP and CAP the federal government acquired lands and easements upon which the dams and canals sit. The Lands section works closely with the CAP and SRP land sections to administer utility crossing and encroachment as well as new land acquisitions and disposals of land no longer needed for project purposes.
3. Water Contracts: Works on the three-party water contracts for water delivered by CAWCD through the CAP.
4. Recreation: Administer several Recreational Land Use Agreements (RLUA) with local entities. The RLUA provide for some hiking/biking trails along the CAP, ball fields along Reach 11 Dikes, and recreational facilities around Lake Pleasant.
