Summary of freshwater fisheries telemetry methods (final, PDF, 431KB)
By Cathy Karp
Report completed on November 03, 2014

Freshwater fisheries telemetry currently includes passive and active technologies. Passive telemetry (no internal power) includes Passive Integrated Transponder or PIT-tag technology in which the tag is powered through a process referred to as inductive coupling. Active telemetry is currently powered through an internal battery and includes acoustic telemetry and radiotelemetry. Acoustic telemetry uses transmission of low frequency sound while radiotelemetry uses higher frequency radio signal tr
