Low Head Hydro Turbines

Project ID: 3390
Principal Investigator: Jonathan Rogado
Research Topic: Improved Power Generation
Funded Fiscal Years: 2009
Keywords: None

Research Question

* Are there any opportunities in the Central Valley Project for capturing additional energy through the implementation of state-of-the-art low-head hydroelectric technologies?

Need and Benefit

The aim of this Science and Technology (S&T) Program research project is to increase generation capabilities within the Central Valley Project by applying low-head hydroelectric technology to features of the project where the hydraulic energy has not yet been captured. The scope of the feasibility study would include places where a hydraulic drop occurs, using low-head hydro technology and canal turbine technology.
