Research Question
This project will support ongoing efforts to maintain a complete inventory of instrumentation and provide a mechanism to transmit routine instrumentation readings collected in the field in near real time into Reclamation's Data Acquisition and Management System (DAMS) database. Near real time data entry would allow Dam Safety and Emergency Management personnel the ability to review instrumentation data immediately and make appropriate timely decisions particularly when dams are in elevated emergency response levels, significantly reduce late delinquent instrumentation readings, and most importantly increase overall efficiency in the acquisition of instrumentation and validation of readings.
Need and Benefit
There is a GIS-based solution to the current multi-step, multi-day, manual approach to gathering and reviewing instrumentation data. The solution is in the form of a geospatial tool that would allow the gathering and transmission of instrumentation data in near real time into the current DAMS database. This will allow for increased efficiency of field personnel as well as a reduction in operating costs
