Overview

Sandstone, siltstone and shale of the Pennsylvania age Atoka and Johns Valley Formations, the Jackfork sandstone, the Pennsylvania-Mississippian age Stanley shale comprise the bedrocks units in the reservoir area. Interbedded sandstone, siltstone and shale in the reservoir area were subjected to intense folding, uplift and normal and thrust faulting at the close of the Pennsylvania period. Erosion has modified the folded rock sequence into the landforms observed today.
