Three Sisters Irrigation District ARRA Success Story
Transcript PDF 61 kb
The Three Sisters Irrigation District (TSID) will receive $2.4 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act dollars over the next few years through various agencies.
In the winter of 2009/2010, these economic stimulus funds provided full employment to almost a dozen skilled laborers and an economic shot in the arm for dozens of businesses in the small mountain town of Sisters, Oregon, which had been experiencing a 16% unemployment rate.
The District recently completed piping the first section of a multi-phase project. The piping project will cut their canal water losses in half, revitalize a local fishery, save water, build new energy infrastructure, and support a local economy and a solid community partnership. Also, to help pay down their pipe installation costs and generate revenue for the district, TSID will install a renewable hydropower system.
