Big Wood River Basin Study
The Columbia–Pacific Northwest Regional Office, South Valley Ground Water District, and Galena Ground Water District have partnered to complete the Big Wood River Basin Study. This study focuses on the watershed within Blaine and Camas counties and the management plan that ensures surface water delivery to the users in Lincoln County. This watershed has been a point of interest for water calls, administrative actions, and curtailments over the last several years. Reclamation and its partners will evaluate the basin water supply now and projected into the future with changes in climate, population, land use, and agriculture needs.
The Big Wood River Basin Study will:
- Focus on the basin water supply now and projected into the future with changes in climate, population, land use, and agriculture need.
- Develop model(s) for available water supply and how that supply may be allocated.
- Provide a planning model for the various surface and ground water resources that could be used for long term planning.
- Evaluate the water delivery systems (canals) to determine if changes can be made to improve water availability.
