New York Canal
The New York Canal in Boise, Idaho, plays a vital role in water conservation, drought resiliency, and safe and reliable water delivery for the Treasure Valley.
The canal, which is 41 miles long, conveys water from the Boise River Diversion Dam west to Lake Lowell and provides irrigation water to about 165,000 acres in the valley.
Canal construction began in the late 1800s and was enlarged between 1909 and 1912. In 1926, Reclamation transferred the canal’s operation, care, and maintenance to the Boise Project Board of Control.
The canal’s current operating capacity is approximately 2,450 cubic feet per second.
