The Bureau of Reclamation offers diverse internship opportunities for students interested in engineering, hydrology, biology, chemistry, geology, and much more. At Reclamation, we want to see college students land a job that will fulfill their interests.

Steven Romeo, a recent high school graduate, comes to Reclamation from Wheat Ridge, Colorado. He will begin studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder in the fall. Steven completed a 100-hour unpaid internship through an executive high school internship program that paired him with Reclamation. Upon completing that program, he was offered his current internship with Reclamation.

This summer, he enjoyed working on Unmanned Aerial Systems (known as UAS or drones) and learning about photogrammetry. He studied the effects of electromagnetic interference on UAS and how it can obstruct the ability of the UAS to accurately take photographs for photogrammetry. When asked about his experience working at Reclamation, Steven said, “I have not only learned the true meaning of professionalism, but also have gotten the opportunity to see the responsibilities and job descriptions of various types of engineering classifications.”

Steven likes the idea of working for Reclamation in the future. “Not only are there great benefits for working here, but there is also an importance to what you are working on,” he said. “Nothing is better than knowing what you’re working on means something and is necessary.”

Steven’s intern experiences will serve him well and provide him with an array of useful knowledge and tools as he progresses in his education and career. Reclamation is grateful for the opportunity to mentor young professionals who will play a significant role in shaping the future.
