The Bureau of Reclamation offers diverse internship opportunities for students interested in engineering, hydrology, biology, chemistry, geology, and much more. At Reclamation, we want to see college students land a job that will fulfill their interests.

Amy Young comes to Reclamation from Broomfield, Colorado. She graduated in May of 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, where she will stay to earn her master’s degree in the same field.

During her internship, she learned a lot about engineering through her support of the Navajo Gallup Water Supply Project. Once constructed, the project will convey reliable municipal and industrial water from the San Juan River to portions of the Navajo and Jicarilla Apache nations, and the city of Gallup, New Mexico, via about 280 miles of pipeline, several pumping plants, and two water treatment plants.

Amy learned about the design process, and how complex real-world scenarios can be; as well as how to use Autodesk Revit Architecture, an architectural design and documentation software application. She hopes to eventually complete a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering; and would be interested pursuing in a career with Reclamation.
