A Successful C.A.S.T. for Kids Event at Lake Pleasant
Written by: Emily Quinn
Event participant holds the catch of the dayOn April 15, the annual C.A.S.T. event was held at Lake Pleasant, near Peoria, Arizona. The C.A.S.T. for Kids program was designed to provide disabled and disadvantaged children with a unique opportunity to learn about the outdoors, and to experience the thrills of fishing in an adaptive and accessible environment.
The event was very well attended, with 43 children and their guardians. There were also 43 volunteer boat captains and volunteers who helped set up the rest of the day’s fun activities on the lake.
Each child was paired with a friendly volunteer who taught them all they needed to know about fishing, as well as a bit about the outdoors. The weather was warm, the sun was shining, and everyone had a great time. Best of all, the fish were biting, and lots of children were able to catch their very own fish for the first time in their lives.
Thank you to all of the community members and volunteers who made this year’s event a success.
