Bureau of Reclamation Lands under Fire Restriction Order

Due to a very high fire danger, a Fire Restriction Order has been declared for all Bureau of Reclamation lands within the Snake River Area Office in Idaho and eastern Oregon. This will become effective 12:01a.m. on Friday, August 1, and will remain in place until further notice.

Reclamation projects include the Baker, Boise, Burnt River, Little Wood, Mann Creek, Minidoka, Owyhee, Palisades, Ririe, and Vale. Specific areas include Bully Creek Reservoir, Beulah Reservoir, Black Canyon Reservoir, Montour Wildlife Management area, Lake Walcott, American Falls Reservoir, Ririe Reservoir, Lake Cascade, Little Wood Reservoir, Mann Creek Reservoir, Lake Owyhee, Phillips Lake, Unity Reservoir, and Warmsprings Reservoir.

The activities that are restricted are: building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire or stove fire, except a fire within a developed recreation site and only within a steel or concrete fire ring; and, smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material.

According to Jerry Gregg, Snake River Area Office Area Manager, "This Fire Restriction Order is put in place to protect valuable natural resources, private property, and people's lives."
