Informational Meeting On San Acacia River Miles 114 and 113 Priority Sites Project

Media Contact: Kim Greenwood, (505) 462-3557, kgreenwood@uc.usbr.gov

For Release: May 18, 2004

Reclamation invites the media to attend an informational meeting for the public on its proposal to address two priority sites along the Rio Grande where the river flow is nearing the levee.

Reclamation will briefly present five options and provide details on the preferred option. The preferred option would be a unique project constructed on federal land, and it would entail moving the levee and Low Flow Conveyance Channel to the west of their present locations. This option would allow the river more room to migrate in the floodplain and potentially provide improved habitat for the endangered Rio Grande silvery minnow while providing flood protection for private property and citizens.

The meeting will be held on Friday, May 21, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. in the Socorrro Field Division offices located at: 2401 State Rd. #1, Socorro, New Mexico. For directions, please call Beverly at: (505) 835-1202.
