The Bureau of Reclamation awarded two contracts on the renovation of Upper Stillwater Dam this year. The first contract, to install rock bolts and heavy duty netting on the left abutment rock slopes, as well as gabion baskets to reduce the amount of falling debris from above the boat ramp at the left abutment, is completed.

The second contract, awarded to ASI RCC, Inc, of Buena Vista, Colorado began on October 30, 2003, and is ongoing. Their work has consisted thus far of drilling grout holes from within the galleries and on the upstream face of the dam in preparation for chemical grouting the existing cracks in the dam. The work will also include installing stainless steel and asphalt as a flexible sealant in three cracks to provide a water stop in the structure. Several drain holes will also be drilled in the dam. Due to the extreme conditions during winter, the outside work will likely be shut down from December to February 2004, and is scheduled to take approximately one year.

Upper Stillwater was built in 1987, and is a roller compacted concrete-gravity dam. It has a structural height of 182 feet and holds back a reservoir of 32,496 acre-feet of water. It is located 10 miles northwest of Mountain Home, Utah.
