For Release: December 05, 2005

Beginning on Wednesday, December 7th, water releases from Davis Dam will be lower than normal during mid-day hours to help address energy demands in the Southwest.

The releases will continue to average about 7,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) each day, but the current release pattern will change.

Presently, releases from Davis Dam average about 9,200 cfs (2 generating units) between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time, and 4,600 cfs (1 unit) in the evening and early morning hours.

But effective December 7, the daily schedule for releases from Davis Dam will be:

12:01 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. 4,600 cfs (one unit)

6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. 9,200 cfs (two units)

10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 4,600 cfs

4:00 p.m. to midnight 9,200 cfs

As in years past, this schedule will help the Western Area Power Administration more efficiently distribute hydropower from Davis Dam to customers in Nevada, Arizona and California. It is expected to continue throughout December; however, it is subject to change depending on downstream water demands and other conditions.

All river users should exercise extra caution during this period of fluctuating river flows.
