The Bureau of Reclamation has joined in partnership with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game and the Lewiston Orchards Irrigation District to construct a 2 ½ mile fence near Soldiers Meadow Reservoir in an attempt to control land use impacts from grazing and off-road vehicles.
The natural resource agencies and irrigation district hope the fence will limit damage sometimes caused by off-road vehicles and cattle grazing near the reservoir, located about eight miles southwest of Winchester, Idaho.
Installation of the steel post and barbed wire fence will be completed by late spring or early summer 2004.
The fence will run about a quarter of a mile along the east side of Soldiers Meadow Reservoir, and west along the north side of the Soldiers Meadow subdivision. It will follow the north side of the Soldiers Meadow Road to the intersection with the Webb Ridge Road, where it will follow the east side of the county road approximately one half mile north.
A one-mile segment of the fence bordering the north end of Soldiers Meadow Reservoir has been completed.
