The Bureau of Reclamation announced today that it has awarded a contract in the amount of $4,712,152 to Surveying Services Inc. of Santa Fe, N.M., for field survey analysis in New Mexico.

Work performed under the five-year contract will include site surveys in remote locations, including rough terrain surveys and analysis near waterways, irrigation facilities, dams and government construction areas. The majority of the work will be performed in the Rio Grande Valley.

Reclamation Commissioner John Keys said Surveying Services Inc., which also previously held the surveying contract for Reclamation's Albuquerque office, provides an important service.

"The work performed by this company provides essential information to our river analysis and engineering design teams as we study the river and prepare for future construction projects or enhancements to existing projects," Keys said.

Prior to the start of the field surveys, Surveying Services may need to remove some vegetation or undergrowth in order to clear lines for survey equipment along the Rio Grande. To do so, the contractor may need to use various standardized vegetation removal equipment such as chainsaws and axes.
