For Release: February 13, 2004

The Bureau of Reclamation's Boulder Canyon Operations Office (BCOO) in Boulder City, Nevada, announced the opening of its new Water Control Center, effective February 8, 2004. Water scheduling and river operations for the lower Colorado River from Lake Mead to Parker Dam will be managed from the Center.

Please note that the water operations functions Reclamation's Yuma Area Office accomplishes on a daily basis will not change; water contractors that currently report their water order changes to the Yuma Water Operations Office will continue to do so. Similarly, water contractors that currently report their water order changes to BCOO will continue to do so.

BCOO will continue to consider special operational requests from Lake Mohave to Parker Dam and, on occasion, implement requests for special operations of Lake Moovalya and Headgate Rock Dam. Such requests include water schedule changes, lake elevation concerns, flows below dams during holiday weekends, reporting of problems with river flows and special events that communities or organizations plan. These requests should be submitted in advance to the Water Control Center at BCOO.

A water scheduler will be on duty at the BCOO center Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (PST), and on Federal holidays and weekends (Saturday and Sunday), from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (PST). The BCOO scheduler can be contacted by telephone (702.293.8680); by fax (702.293.8454), or by e-mail (waterops@lc.usbr.gov).

Complete information on current and future water releases, reservoir levels and other data related to river operations from Hoover Dam to Parker Dam is published daily on Reclamation's web site, http://www.usbr.gov/lc/region/lcrivops.html. Individuals and entities desiring information on routine river conditions are encouraged to look at this information instead of contacting the operations center.

Questions about the BCOO center should be directed to Bruce Williams, (702) 293-8571.
