Media Contact: Jeffrey McCracken, 916-978-5100, JMCCRACKEN@mp.usbr.gov

For Release: April 25, 2003

Reclamation has agreed to delay the start of the Trinity River releases originally planned for Monday, April 28, 2003. The new start date is Wednesday, April 30, 2003. The Trinity Adaptive Management Working Group (TAMWG) requested on April 23, 2003 that the Trinity Management Council (TMC) consider ways of optimizing the current dry water year flow schedule "to achieve the best effects possible within existing legal and practical constraints". This will allow the Trinity Management Council (TMC) to consider this recommendation at their regularly scheduled meeting in Weaverville on Tuesday, April 29.

Current releases from Lewiston Dam to the Trinity River are 300 cubic feet per second (cfs). Increased releases would start on Wednesday, April 30, 2003, ramping up to 4,500 cfs by Sunday, May 4, 2003. The 4,500 cfs release will be maintained for 5 days and then gradually decreased over a 2-month period. The daily release schedule is available online at the Central Valley Operations Office (CVO) website at: www.mp.usbr.gov/cvo/ , and will be updated if any decisions are made to change the schedule on April 29, 2003.
