Water 2025 Challenge Grant Announced For Model Irrigation District In Spokane Valley

The Bureau of Reclamation will have representation at a special award ceremony on November 2 to announce a Water 2025 Challenge Grant for the Model Irrigation District in Spokane Valley, Washington.

Federal, state and local officials will join the award recipients and honored guests at 10:00 a.m. at the Model Irrigation District Office, 1506 South Pierce Street.

The $224,354 Water 2025 Challenge Grant will help the irrigation district to design and install a new telemetry system, install water meters and other water conservation measures. Total cost for the project is about $457,804.

"This project is an example of how we can make more efficient use of existing water supplies through cooperative partnerships," said Bill McDonald, Reclamation Regional Director. "The Model Irrigation District is facing the needs of the future by focusing on conservation today."

Model Irrigation District provides potable water to more than 2,100 homes and businesses in a 1,000 acre area within the city of Spokane Valley, Washington.

The Water 2025 Challenge Grant Program funds activities that will make more efficient use of existing water supplies through water conservation, efficiency and water marketing projects. More information about the Water 2025 Program can be found at http://www.doi.gov/water2025/.
