The Bureau of Reclamation will be conducting a field exploration program at East Canyon Dam under the authority of the Safety of Dams Act of 1978 (amended 1984). This act ensures that all Reclamation dams receive periodic examination and evaluation for the avoidance of any potential dam safety problems. Data gained from this exploration program will be used to provide better input to risk assessment and performance parameters for the dam.

Bureau of Reclamation drill crews and geologists will begin the exploration program on or about May 19th, and are expected to be completed in July 2004. Several holes will be core drilled on the crest of East Canyon dam and on the downstream side of the dam.

East Canyon Dam is a thin arch concrete dam located 12 miles south of Morgan, UT. The dam was completed in 1966 as part of the Weber Basin Project. It provides water for irrigation, M&I (municipal and industrial) uses and power generation.
