For Release: May 12, 2004

A Bureau of Reclamation employee will be in Washington, DC, to receive recognition for his efforts at invigorating the Combined Federal Campaign that brings financial donations to non-profit organizations throughout America and the world. Federal civilian and military personnel around the globe raised over $248 million dollars in the 2003 campaign.

Duncan Nims, Activity Manager in the Reclamation's Regional Office in Boise, will be in Washington, DC, on May 21 to meet Dan G. Blair, Deputy Director of the Office of Personnel Management. Blair will pay tribute to Nims and others who are considered "unsung heroes" for their support of the CFC and commitment to community service.

Nims will be one of three civilian employees to be honored at the 2003 CFC Heroes and Innovators Awards ceremony. Nims served as a primary representative for CFC activity amongst federal civilian and military employees in Southwestern Idaho.

He trained CFC loaned executives, served as vice chairman and later as CFC chairman for 2002 and 2003. Under his leadership, the 2003 Southwestern Idaho campaign set an all-time record of giving, totaling $425,457, a 5 percent increase over the previous year. Over 2,000 civilian and military donors from 63 government agencies contributed to the record-setting campaign. The two-year total under his leadership raised in excess of $827,000, which represents an increase of $128,000 from 2001-02 campaigns. Almost half of these funds remain in the local area.

"Duncan is certainly an outstanding hero of our campaign," said Cyndy Lounsbury, CFC Campaign Manager. "He embodies the giving spirit and professionalism that makes CFC and America great."

Prior to moving to Idaho, Nims served 11 years at the Columbia Basin Job Corps Center in Moses Lake, Washington.

Nims will join other award recipients from around the country being honored for CFC activities that raise donations for local, national and international charities. The award ceremony will be held in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building located adjacent to the White House.
