For Release: October 05, 2005

Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner John W. Keys, III will visit Klamath Falls, Oregon, on Tuesday, October 11, 2005, to dedicate Reclamations Link River Dam Fish Passage and speak at the Klamath Water Users Association Centennial Dinner.

The Commissioner will speak at 2 p.m. at Link River Dam on Lakeshore Drive. Chairman Allan Foreman, Klamath Tribes, will also speak and lead a blessing ceremony. The Link River Dam Fish Passage was installed at a cost of $2,239,000 to provide a way for the Lost River and shortnose suckers to circumvent the dam and move upstream from Lake Euwana to their spawning ground in Upper Klamath Lake. The suckers are sacred to the Klamath Tribes. Completion of the passage is a requirement of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Biological Opinion to ensure the survival of the species.

In the evening, Commissioner Keys will be the keynote speaker at the joint Centennial Dinner of the Klamath Water Users Association and Reclamations Klamath Project. Both organizations were founded in 1905 and have shared 100 years of partnership and progress. The dinner-buffet begins at 6:30 p.m. at Reames Country Club, Klamath Falls. News media will have the opportunity to interview the Commissioner both at the dam and after the speech at the Centennial Dinner.
