Webster Dam Spillway Gates to Receive Repairs

The Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a $286,200 contract to CCG of Oklahoma, Inc., for the repair of three steel counterweight box frames on the spillway radial gates at Webster Dam located in northwestern Kansas. Work will begin in late September and be completed by the end of November 2005.
The maintenance work on the spillway gates is being performed in response to small cracks in the exterior steel plates of the counter-weights. The modifications will allow for the continued safe operation of the dam and are not expected to impact operations of the facility. The structure is sound and the work is considered part of normal dam maintenance.
The public should be aware that traffic may be affected during construction by the temporary road closure of Kansas Highway 258 over the spillway. The Contractor, CCG of Oklahoma, Inc., will coordinate with the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) on any road closures needed and KDOT will notify the public.
Webster Dam, located 8 miles west of Stockton, Kansas, is the principal feature of the Webster Unit which provides flood control for areas downstream of the dam, irrigation water to 8,500 irrigable acres, fish and wildlife conservation and enhancement, and recreation opportunities.
