For Release: June 09, 2003

Reclamation's Northern California Area Office is holding its fourth annual C.A.S.T (Catch A Special Thrill) for Kids event on Saturday, June 14, 2003, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Packers Bay Boat Launch Area on Shasta Lake.

C.A.S.T. for Kids is an outdoor event that teams up sponsors and fishermen with area disabled and disadvantaged youth for a day of fishing enjoyment. This opportunity is available to children with a wide range of disabilities, including the visually impaired, hearing impaired, and children from Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The day will begin with registration where each child will receive fishing gear, a T-shirt, hat, and other donated items that they may keep. While enjoying breakfast, the children will learn about boating and water safety from the Shasta County Sheriff's Lake Patrol and be treated to a visit by the Mercy Air helicopter, Smokey Bear, Moose Lodge Clowns, and the California Highway Patrol's Chipper. The children, their parents or guardians, and their fishing mentor will then take part in a morning of fishing on Shasta Lake. Lunch will be served, hosted by the Shasta Lake City's Lions Club. The day will conclude with closing ceremonies and awards.

This event is co-sponsored by Reclamation and the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation, and has the support of more than 50 area sponsors.
