For Release: June 18, 2003

On June 13, 2003, Reclamation awarded a contract in the amount of $16,974,135 to Steve Manning Construction of Redding, California, to build the American River Pump Station Project (Project).

The Project's purpose is to restore year-round access to Placer County Water Authority's water rights water, which was lost during initial construction activities of Auburn Dam in the early 1970s. The Project will also restore flows to a 3/4-mile section of the American River that has been dry since that time.

The Project includes building the pump station and pipeline, roads, and reconstructing a channel in the dry portion of the American River. Work is expected to begin in July 2003 with completion scheduled in the summer of 2005.
