For Release: September 16, 2005

Beginning in mid-September, the Bureau of Reclamation's drill crew and contract workers will perform modifications to the spillway outlet structure at Virginia Smith Dam located in central Nebraska. Alice Johns, Reclamation's Nebraska-Kansas Area Manager, said, "The modifications are related to the drain system in the spillway outlet structure and will be similar to those performed on the structure in 2003." The modifications, expected to be completed by early October, will allow for the continued safe operation of the dam and are not expected to impact operations of the facility or access to Calamus Reservoir.
