Deputy Regional Director and Assistant Regional Director Named for Reclamation's Great Plains Region

Great Plains Regional Director Mike Ryan announced today that Gary W. Campbell of Stafford, Va., has been named Deputy Regional Director and Donald E. Moomaw of Mustang, Okla., has been named Assistant Regional Director for the Bureau of Reclamation's Great Plains Region headquartered in Billings, Mont.
Ryan said, "I am very pleased to have Gary and Don join my management team in Billings. Gary has had a long and distinguished engineering and management career with the U.S. Forest Service which will serve Reclamation well, and Don brings a tremendous breadth of Reclamation experience and knowledge to his position."
Campbell and Moomaw will assist Ryan in managing Reclamation facilities and programs in the Great Plains Region which encompasses all or parts of nine states from Montana and North Dakota south to Texas. The region manages 80 dams and reservoirs which provide irrigation water to serve over two million acres of cropland and drinking water to over two million rural and urban residents. The region also manages 21 powerplants which produce enough electricity to meet the needs of about 250,000 households. Campbell is currently Deputy Director, Engineering, for the U.S. Forest Service in Washington, D.C. He started his Forest Service career in 1982 as a civil engineer on the Bighorn National Forest in Sheridan, Wyo. Since then he has held progressively responsible positions with the Forest Service in California, Nevada and Utah. He has served in positions in Washington, D.C., since January 2000.
Campbell received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Wyoming and is a registered professional engineer. Ryan said Campbell will report to his position in October.
Since 1999 Moomaw has been Deputy Area Manager for Reclamation's Oklahoma-Texas Area, duty stationed in Oklahoma City, Okla. Prior to that he worked for nine years as a program manager, program coordinator and environmental specialist in the Oklahoma City and Austin, Texas, offices. During the first half of his career he served in a number of positions in four Reclamation regions.
Moomaw received a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Kansas. He has 32 years of federal experience. Ryan said Moomaw will report to his new position early in October.
Campbell replaces Jaralyn Beek who will become Manager of the Water and Environmental Resources Office at Reclamation's Denver Office. Moomaw will replace Jerry Kelso who was named Manager of Reclamation's Upper Columbia Area Office in Yakima, Wash., in December 2004.
