For Release: September 14, 2005

The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) has released for public review the Draft Environmental Assessment for a 25-year lease to Verizon Wireless, Inc., for the construction of a cellular telephone tower and equipment shelter, and the paving of an existing gravel access road near Millerton Reservoir.

The proposed action, if approved, would be located on lands owned by Reclamation and managed by the California Department of Parks and Recreation. The lease would begin later this year and construction activities would be undertaken when recreational use is low. Although the cell tower would be visible from some of the day use areas, campsites, and Millerton Reservoir, it would not obstruct views of the reservoir or Sierra Mountains for visitors.

For additional information or to request a copy of the draft documents, please contact Ms. Lynne Silva at 559-487-5807. Written comments must be received by close of business on September 29, 2005, and should be sent to Ms. Lynne Silva, Bureau of Reclamation, South Central California Area Office, 1243 N Street, Fresno, CA 93721.
