The Bureau of Reclamation will host an open house September 21, in Yakima, Washington, to provide updates and answer questions about the alternatives being studied as part of the Yakima River Basin Water Storage Feasibility Study.

The open house will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m., at the Yakima Convention Center at 10 North 8th Street, Suite 400.

"The purpose of this open house is to update the public regarding the progress of the Storage Study and to answer their questions regarding the other alternatives being studied in the basin in addition to the potential Black Rock project," said Kim McCartney, Reclamation storage study manager. "We will have several visual displays and staff available to answer questions regarding the many issues involved in this study."

Information about the Storage Study may be viewed on the Storage Study website at www.usbr.gov/pn/programs/storage_study.

Reclamation is in the process of writing a Yakima River Basin Appraisal Assessment, which will consist of an evaluation of three in-basin alternatives of the Storage Study: Bumping Lake enlargement; Wymer Dam and Reservoir; and Keechelus-to-Kachess pipeline. The Appraisal Assessment is expected to be completed and released to the public by the end of 2005.

The meeting facilities are physically accessible to people with disabilities. Please direct requests for sign language interpretation for the hearing impaired, or other auxiliary aids, to Kim McCartney at (509) 575-5848 x370.
