For Release: August 22, 2005

The Bureau of Reclamation announced today that the Adaptive Management Work Group (AMWG) will meet Aug. 30-31, 2005, in Phoenix, Ariz., addressing issues related to the Glen Canyon Adaptive Management Program. The advisory committee provides a forum for discussion of issues related to the operations and ongoing monitoring of downstream conditions below Glen Canyon Dam. The AMWG will receive information and updates on the management of the Colorado River, feasibility of a Glen Canyon Dam temperature control device, temperature of dam releases, prospective humpback chub refuge facilities and basin hydrology. The AMWG will also deliberate and recommend the fiscal year 2006 budget for the program. The meeting is open to the public.

The AMWG is a Federal Advisory Committee appointed by the Secretary of the Interior with representatives from federal agencies, Colorado River Basin states, Native American tribal governments, environmental groups, recreation interests and contractors for federal power from Glen Canyon Dam. The AMWG makes it possible for the Secretary to bring these varied interests together to reach consensus on how to best protect the downstream resources and balance river operations.

The meeting will be held at the Arizona Department of Water Resources, 500 North Third Street, Conference Rooms A and B. The meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 30, and conclude at 5:00 p.m., MST, and will run from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., MST, on Wednesday, August 31.
