For Release: September 09, 2003
Reclamation has extended the public scoping period for the Klamath Project Operations Draft Environmental Impact Statement an additional 90 days. The formal scoping period will now close on Monday, December 1, 2003. Reclamation has extended the comment period in anticipation of the release of additional information such as the final report of the National Academy of Science's Committee on Endangered and Threatened Fishes in the Klamath River Basin.
The action being proposed is the implementation of an operations plan through March 2012 that provides for the continual operation of the Klamath Project in a way that meets its legal obligations. The action stems from an underlying need to reduce uncertainty to the extent possible by Reclamation, agricultural water users, Tribes, National Wildlife Refuges, and other interested/affected parties about both the short and long-term availability of project water.
A public scoping document is available on line at www.usbr.gov/mp/kbao. For additional information or to request a copy of the scoping document, contact Reclamation's Public Affairs Office at 916-978-5100, TDD 916-978-5608, or Mr. Daniel Fritz, Project Manager, at 541-880-2556, TDD 541-883-6935.
