Reclamation's Phoenix Area Office announces $81,000 in grants awarded through its local Water Conservation Field Services Program. "Water conservation is a critical tool in stretching our existing water supplies," said Phoenix area manager Carol Lynn Erwin.

The City of Goodyear was awarded $20,000 to design and implement a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system. SCADA systems allow monitoring and control of distribution within water systems from a master location.

The University of Arizona's Sustainability of Semi-Arid Hydrology & Riparian Areas (SAHRA) division was awarded $10,000 to develop and implement a rainwater harvesting project at The Nature Conservancy campus in Tucson, Arizona.

Irrigation Management Services of Casa Grande was awarded $20,000 to continue its on-farm water conservation and management programs which assist growers in the Pinal Active Management Area in improving their irrigation water management skills.

The Wilcox/San Simon Natural Resource Conservation District was awarded $20,000 to begin an on-farm water conservation and management program to assist growers in northern Cochise and southern Graham counties to improve their skills in irrigation water management.

Arizona State University received an $11,000 grant to demonstrate the use of an innovative, large-scale photobioreactor in concentrated animal feeding operations. The project's goal is to achieve maximum water reuse and conservation in dairy operations while eliminating potential pollution to watersheds from waste nutrients.

A minimum cost-sharing of 50 percent was required for submitted proposals to be considered. A Request For Proposals for fiscal year 2006 is anticipated in mid-October. Interested parties are encouraged to go to www.grants.gov and register to be notified when the RFP is posted.
