AUBURN, Calif. -- The Bureau of Reclamation today signed a Record of Decision that will guide the future development and management of Auburn State Recreation Area and Auburn Project Lands.

Reclamation worked closely throughout this five-year process with California Department of Parks and Recreation to address both nearby communities and visitors’ concerns, such as reducing wildfire risk, providing better parking and improving roads and pedestrian safety.

Auburn SRA/APL is in the Sierra Nevada foothills, northeast of Sacramento. It includes about 30,000 acres of public land situated along the north and middle forks of the American River. State Parks currently manages the Auburn SRA through a managing partner agreement with Reclamation.

The GP/RMP actions include resource protection and land use strategies that will serve the communities and recreating public in the long term. These actions include addressing wildfire risk prior to new development; improving traffic circulation and parking issues; and strengthening communication regarding river hazard risks.

The ROD was prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and is available here: https://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=38261.
