NAPA, Calif. – The Bureau of Reclamation today announced a new partnership with Napa County to develop Lake Berryessa recreation facilities.

Reclamation and Napa County have completed negotiations on a Managing Partner Agreement. The 55-year agreement allows Napa County to develop new concession facilities beginning with Monticello Shores, Steele Canyon and Spanish Flat recreation areas.

“We appreciate all of Napa County’s efforts and hard work to create this agreement for building concession sites at Lake Berryessa,” said California−Great Basin Regional Director Ernest Conant. “This is a huge achievement for all of us. We’re looking forward to building this partnership with Napa County and working together to deliver a thriving recreation program at Lake Berryessa for the public.”

The Managing Partner Agreement was presented to the Napa County Board of Supervisors and approved on March 17, 2020, and recently executed. Napa County will move into phase 1 of the plan, which is to develop new concession facilities beginning with Monticello Shores, Steele Canyon and Spanish Flat recreation areas.

“It has been too long since we experienced a thriving Lake Berryessa,” said Supervisor Diane Dillon, chair of the Napa County Board of Supervisors. “We look forward to working with the community to restore economic vitality to the region surrounding one of Napa County’s most important recreational areas. We thank the Bureau of Reclamation for working with us and for providing the county the opportunity to bring back vibrant concessions at Lake Berryessa.”

Lake Berryessa offers year-round recreation opportunities for boating and water sports, fishing, camping, picnicking, hiking, wildlife viewing and sightseeing. Popular recreation facilities include marinas, campsites, day-use areas, a visitor center, launch ramps, hiking trails and dispersed lake access sites.
