For Release: August 05, 2005

Celebrate "America's Gateway to Boating" by visiting Lake Berryessa resorts and marinas on August 13, 2005. Festivities from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. will take place at Coyote Beach located in the north end of Oak Shores Day Use Area, on Knoxville Road on the western shores of Lake Berryessa. Discounts, prizes and demonstrations will be given at several booths at Coyote Beach. National Marina Day 2005 focuses specifically on two central themes: the important role marinas play as safe, family-friendly gateways to boating, and the invaluable service marina operators and owners perform as stewards of the environment.

In 1928, the word "marina" was used, for the very first time, by the National Association of Engine and Boat Manufacturers to define a recreational boating facility. Since then, marinas have become an integral part not only of American recreation, but also American life.

Located east of Napa Valley, Lake Berryessa offers year-round water-related recreation opportunities. Anglers enjoy fishing, and the Bureau of Reclamation provides day use areas. At capacity, Lake Berryessa stores 1.6 million acre feet of water and is one of the largest bodies of fresh water in California. Lake Berryessa is on Putah Creek and is formed by Monticello Dam, a feature of Reclamation's Solano Project.
