Boat Launches Closed at Clark Canyon Reservoir Through Holiday

Clark Canyon, Mont. - Due to low water levels, boat ramps at Clark Canyon Reservoir, located 21 miles south of Dillon, are currently unusable for most watercraft.
According to Susan Kelly, Area Manager with the Bureau of Reclamation, "Present water levels at Clark Canyon Reservoir are the lowest on record. All of the boat ramps are out of the water at this time."
Although small watercraft are still being launched from the boat ramp at Beaverhead Campground, the concrete ramp is out of the water and moving boats safely into the reservoir is considered to be difficult, at best. Reclamation advises visitors to use their own judgment, and cautions that use of the boat ramps is "at your own risk."
Previously during dry periods, Reclamation maintained the boat ramp at Beaverhead Campground by using temporary planks to extend the launch down to the water. However, due to local site conditions, the Beaverhead Campground boat ramp has already reached maximum extension.
Reservoir water levels are expected to rise by the first part of September, but increases will be slow, due to record low inflows at the reservoir. Reclamation has indicated that a date for renewed operation is currently impossible to predict.
Fire restrictions continue at the campgrounds and lands surrounding Clark Canyon Reservoir, which Reclamation administers, and open burning is banned. This means absolutely no fires or charcoal grills, although gas stoves for cooking are permissible.
