The Bureau of Reclamation awarded a contract for improvements at some of the recreation areas around Clark Canyon Reservoir, located 21 miles south of Dillon, according to Montana Area Manager Susan Kelly. Work is scheduled to begin the week of October 6th.

The contract was awarded to Hardrives Asphalt Company, Inc., of Billings. Work will include road improvements at two locations around the reservoir and preparing recreation areas for the upcoming Lewis and Clark Bicentennial activities.

Kelly said; "The project will include widening one of the roads that travels through Lewis and Clark Campground, constructing a parking area and turnaround near the Lewis and Clark Overlook, and developing an interpretive area near the existing marina. Also scheduled is widening the existing road that enters West Cameahwait Campground."

The Lewis and Clark Overlook, Lewis and Clark Campground, and West Cameahwait Campground will be closed at times during construction this winter. The construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of January, 2004.
