The Bureau of Reclamation announces the presentation of the 2004 Commissioner's Award to the Regional Water Authority (RWA). Mr. John Davis, Deputy Regional Director for Reclamation's Mid-Pacific Region, will present the 2004 Commissioner's Award to the RWA in recognition of their outstanding efforts in water use efficiency. The award will be presented on July 14, 2005 at 9 a.m. at the Carmichael Water District, 7837 Fair Oaks Blvd., Carmichael, CA.

The RWA is a joint powers authority of 18 water suppliers. One of their main objectives is to implement the Water Forum Agreement to provide strategies for regional water supply reliability and to improve Lower American River water quality. Water Use Efficiency Best Management Practices (BMPs) is an integral element of the Water Forum Agreement and a major program of the RWA. The RWA's Water Efficiency Program is designed to directly implement measures to satisfy urban water conservation BMPs and to assist local water suppliers.

Mr. Davis stated, "Reclamation applauds the RWA's Water Efficiency Program, which has demonstrated ongoing success over its 4-year existence based on solid leadership and expertise."

The RWA has worked in partnership with several agencies, including Reclamation. Reclamation has partnered with the RWA in the implementation of a wide range of programs, such as providing workshops for homeowners and green industry professionals on irrigation efficiency and initiating a pilot project for a school education program on water efficiency and surface water pollution prevention to 15,000 students per year for 3 years. Other worthy programs are the toilet replacement rebate project in partnership with eight of the area's water suppliers and the installation of several hundred water efficient spray nozzles through the "Rinse and Save Program."
