ASHLAND, Ore. – The Bureau of Reclamation will temporarily close some of the public areas around Howard Prairie Dam to begin construction to modify the dam. Beginning May 22, 2018, the un-improved boat ramp, the access road to the un-improved boat ramp, and the parking lot adjacent to the south side of the dam will be closed to the public. All other public recreation areas around Howard Prairie Reservoir will remain open during construction. Work will be completed in 2019.

Howard Prairie Dam is located on Beaver Creek approximately 19 miles east of Talent. It was constructed from 1957 to 1958 for irrigation storage and water that is released to Green Springs Powerplant, through Howard Prairie Delivery Canal for power generation. The dam is owned by Reclamation and operated by the Talent Irrigation District.
