Loveland, Colorado -- The Bureau of Reclamation's Eastern Colorado Area Office will be conducting a routine inspection of Granby Dam Dike No. 3 beginning the week of May 14, 2018. The drilling is part of a periodic evaluation that all Reclamation dams undergo.

Reclamation employees will be drilling into the dike from the crest to the toe, collecting samples of the materials that were used to construct it. The data collected will help inform Reclamation how the dike is performing. The drill crew is anticipated to be at the dike for several months as it completes the work.

Granby Dam was constructed in the 1940s as part of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project. It forms Lake Granby, which is the second largest waterbody in the state of Colorado.
