FRESNO, Calif. - The Bureau of Reclamation prepared an environmental assessment for public review for the Buena Vista Water Storage District’s Northern Area Pipeline Eastern Extension Project, located 16 miles west of Bakersfield in Kern County.

Through its WaterSMART Water and Energy Efficiency Grant program, Reclamation proposes to provide $1 million to the district to install 5 miles of pipeline connecting its southern extension to its eastern areas. The pipeline project will replace unlined canals improving delivery measurements and control, and also reduce water lost through evaporation and seepage. The resulting annual water savings is expected to be 5,833 acre-feet per year.

Reclamation prepared the environmental assessment in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act, available at https://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=33001.
