BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The Bureau of Reclamation’s Lower Colorado Region announced today that it is hosting its annual C.A.S.T. for Kids fishing event on Saturday, October 21, at Lake Mead, Nevada. Children with special needs will have the opportunity to reel in a good time as they join enthusiastic local volunteers for a morning of fishing.

The “Catch a Special Thrill” (C.A.S.T.) program provides children with physical or developmental disabilities, ages 5 to 17, the opportunity to enjoy a quality outdoor recreational experience through the sport of fishing. This year’s event will kick-off at 8:00 a.m. PDT at Hemenway Harbor by the Lake Mead Marina.

Organizers anticipate approximately 200 children, parents and volunteers will participate in the event. Local volunteers will serve as fishing guides and offer assistance to the novice anglers. Anglers will be celebrated with an award ceremony and a complimentary lunch provided by the event sponsors. The primary sponsors of the event include the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation, Bureau of Reclamation, National Park Service, Nevada Department of Wildlife, Give Me A Break (GAB), Blind Center of Nevada, Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Nevada Blind Children’s Foundation. Volunteer organizations include the Nevada Striper Club, Nevada Bass Anglers and the Knights of Columbus. In addition, the event venue, pontoon boats and food preparation area are generously provided by the Lake Mead Marina.

For more information about the event, please contact Toyya Mahoney, Regional Coordinator, at (702) 293-8131 or visit the C.A.S.T. website at: http://castforkids.org/events/. Should inclement weather occur, the event will be canceled.

The C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation is a public charity that was formed in 1991 to join volunteers who love to fish with children who have special needs for a day of fishing in the outdoors. The Foundation became an official 501(c)3 in 1994 and currently hosts three programs: C.A.S.T. for Kids, Fishing Kids, and Take a Warrior Fishing.
