Reclamation releases Finding of No Significant Impact for Alternative 1 from the Final Environmental Assessment for the Southern Nevada Intertie (Harry Allen to Eldorado 500 kV Transmission) Project

Boulder City, Nev. - The Bureau of Reclamation has released a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for Alternative 1 from the Bureau of Land Management’s 2014 Final Environmental Assessment for the Southern Nevada Intertie (Harry Allen to Eldorado 500 kV Transmission) Project.
The environmental assessment analyzed the potential environmental impacts of three alternatives: a Proposed Action alternative, Alternative 1, and a No-Action alternative. The Proposed Action alternative presented a plan for the construction, operation, and maintenance of an approximately 60-mile 500 kV transmission line between the Harry Allen substation northeast of Las Vegas and the Eldorado substation south of Boulder City, Nevada. Alternative 1 differs from the Proposed Action alternative in that it would use existing transmission poles, rather than require installation of new poles, for 18 miles of the total project distance.
In 2014 Reclamation issued a FONSI for the Proposed Action alternative. The project, which is planned but not yet constructed, has now been modified to use the existing transmission poles as described in Alternative 1. All the Reclamation-managed land, which is adjacent to Henderson, Nevada, to be crossed by the project is included in the 18-mile segment.
