SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Two Bureau of Reclamation environmental reviews have been completed clearing the path for new boat launch facilities at East Park and Stony Gorge reservoirs. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2018 following typical seasonal reservoir drawdown and take two months to complete. Funding for the projects will be provided by California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways grants.

The final Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact documents supporting the projects were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and are available at: https://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=29921 for East Park Reservoir, and https://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=30061 for Stony Gorge Reservoir.

East Park Reservoir, 75 miles northwest of Sacramento in Colusa County, averages 32,000 visitors per year and has no boat launch facilities. Visitors launch their boats directly from the shoreline at multiple locations, increasing the risk of accidents and potential for shoreline erosion. The future boat launch facility will be at Rattlesnake Point on the reservoir’s east side and includes a 200-foot single-lane boat ramp, 60-foot ADA-compliant dock, ADA-compliant sidewalk, paved parking and access road.

Stony Gorge Reservoir, 100 miles northwest of Sacramento in Glenn County, hosts about 20,000 visitors each year. The existing boat launch facility at Skippers Point on the reservoir’s east side was installed 25 years ago and is the only boat launch facility on the reservoir. The new facility will include replacing the existing boat ramp with a 280-foot single-lane boat ramp, and adding an ADA-compliant 80-foot dock, paved parking area, sidewalk and access road.
