The Bureau of Reclamation, a U.S. Department of the Interior agency, today presented a water conservation award to the Lake Arrowhead Community Services District in recognition of its successful 2004 outdoor water conservation campaign, which reduced outdoor water usage in the District by as much as 58 percent.

"The District has been instrumental in promoting a water conservation ethic in a community that has been plagued with the effects of drought," said Reclamation Commissioner John Keys. "Four consecutive years of below average precipitation levels only compounded their water supply challenges."

The District implemented its water conservation campaign to help residents deal with the drought. Reclamation provided $35,000 to the District to help distribute evapotranspiration controllers to Lake Arrowhead homeowners, to help them reduce landscape over-watering. The District provides a data service that transmits location-specific weather data to customers' controllers daily, and works with customers to ensure they are receiving optimal performance from their controllers and data service.

"Reclamation's Water Conservation Field Services Program was established specifically to help local communities and other water entities with water conservation activities such as this," Keys said. "We're very pleased to have been part of Lake Arrowhead's very successful program."
