MOSES LAKE, Wash. – The Bureau of Reclamation’s Ephrata Field Office will hold its annual C.A.S.T. for Kids fishing event Saturday, August 5, from 9:00 am to 1 pm. The event will be held at Potholes Reservoir, located off State Route 262, about 15 miles south of Moses Lake. The campground is managed by Washington State Parks.

The C.A.S.T. “Catch a Special Thrill” program provides one-day fishing and boating events designed to accommodate children with a wide range of special needs.

“I am overjoyed to be a part of this year’s C.A.S.T. event in honor of Jaurette Jackson, who served as the Potholes C.A.S.T. coordinator for many years, and in honor of Anthony Ortiz, who was a volunteer for the Potholes C.A.S.T. event,” says Abby Jennings, event coordinator for the Bureau of Reclamation’s Ephrata Field Office. “To see the kids with such big smiles as they participate in this fishing event will be a wonderful feeling. We are planning on a day full of adventure and excitement.”

The children range in age from 7 to 16 years old. Each participant will receive fishing gear, a tee shirt, and a hat. Local Potholes Bass Club members and the Columbia Basin Walleye Club will provide fishing boats and years of professional experience to assist novice anglers.

The morning fishing event will be followed by a picnic lunch prepared by the Culinary Arts class of the Columbia Basin Job Corps Center.

Partners are C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation, Bureau of Reclamation, Columbia Basin Walleye Club, Potholes Bass Club, Columbia Basin Job Corps Center, Washington State Parks, and Washington State Department Fish and Wildlife. Donations were provided by local businesses: Coulee Playland Resort, Grand Coulee Dam Federal Employees Association, Sporty’s Steakhouse, Safeway, Walmart, Lew’s, Flambeau, MarDon Resort, and various Ephrata Field Office employees. Medical support is provided by Emergency Medical Technicians in Washington State.
