River basins in Utah are experiencing significant winter precipitation and current water supply forecasts indicate runoff will be higher than normal. Those forecasts create complex reservoir operation challenges to safely capture and release high flows while protecting at-risk downstream populations, particularly for the many dams along or near the Wasatch Front. Reclamation and its partner operators are already releasing higher-than-normal flows from several dams in order to create extra reservoir space for projected spring inflows. Those release flows will likely increase into and through the runoff season.
